She just surrendered to the art-making process and went where it took her. She varied the line weights and values in order to add excitement to the piece. She added dots (pointillism) to convey energy. She didn’t have to plan out the end product. The drawing just created itself. It turned into one of her favorites. Once her creative juices started flowing, the piece grew from there as she added other arbitrary shapes and curves along the way. Then she varied the line weight in order to add excitement and energy to the piece. Finally, she shaded in parts of it to give it the element of dimension. 🌿As humans, we have a tendency to look at things at times without really seeing them. We are so familiar with them our brain registers them without noticing the details. Or we do notice them, but we don’t understand the significance of them at the time, like the time I decided to not weed whack the volunteer plant out front because I thought it was a pretty vine. 🌿🌿🌿I just let it grow for season only to later learn that vine was Poison Sumac. Yikes! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️…Now I slow down anytime I see a vine and look at in detail before I get too close. Sometimes we notice more details when life forces us to slow down. Migraines have forced me to slow down. In fact, I started this doodle when I got hit with a migraine. Instead of drawing traditional flowers, I used geometric shapes in order to force the viewer to change their perspective and take a closer look at the drawing. Notice the details like the pollen is carried around by the wind.  What small thing things have you just been passing by that you need to pay more attention to? What things are worthy of your attention?

Christine D. Crosheck lives in the southern lower peninsula of Michigan. When she is not occupied with avoiding Poison Ivy, Poison Oak or Poison Sumac, she enjoys stopping to smell through roses. 🌹🌹🌹She also works with colored pencils. She creates these drawings for herself but is willing to sell them to other individuals.
