The story behind this piece: I had a friend who called me in distress late one night and asked me to pray for her. I am an empathic person, so hearing her cry over the phone had me in distress too. While I was praying, I felt led to get up and create this piece. I have see the power of prayer, and believe that God has the ability to work everything together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28)… I don’t pretend to have everything all figured out. And that certainly doesn’t mean that everything is pleasant, but sometimes people go through challenging experiences because there is a ‘life lesson’ to learn. Hard as that is, I believe God can redeem every situation and bring something good out it. We may only realize what that is when we get to heaven... Everytime I see this piece, I remember to pray for my friend.
I love pieces that appear to be in state of flux.

The story behind this piece: Teenagers can be thorny. At times they remind me of a ‘rose bush’ with thorns. But instead of being annoyed that rose bushes have thorns, we could flip it around and be thankful that thorn bushes have roses, and just put on a sturdy pair of gardening gloves by remembering what we felt like when we were teenagers. If we can remember how challenging that was for us, then perhaps we can extend a bit of grace to the teenagers today. So the next time your teenager is acting all prickly, take a moment to step back and remember that every flower has it’s season. This applies to people everywhere. When people have the right combination of sunshine, rain, and fertilizer, they will bloom into something special. You just have to wait for it.
